Movie Review: Sherlock Holmes
Posted by Stefanie Boe under Uncategorized | Tags: Movie Reviews, netflix |Comments Off
I haven’t watched a movie in a while: hence no movie reviews! But we did recently get “Sherlock Holmes” in the Netflix red envelope.

I love Robert Downey, Jr. I love Sherlock Holmes. I do not love Robert Downey, Jr’s English accent. It made it very difficult to figure out what the heck was going on throughout. It did not get better.
I did like director Guy Ritchy’s use of flashing forward and back to tell the story. That helped me figure out what was going on. This was not the best choice for the kids though. But once we were into it, we couldn’t turn it off. We were too tired from moving all weekend. (see previous post)

Moving burns calories

We had moved into our new home back at the end of August. However, my contract was about to be up here at News First 5, and I hadn’t re-signed yet. I was reluctant to really unpack until I knew for sure I’d be living there a while. So basically 25% of our stuff was in the house—the other 75% in boxes in the garage.
Last week I signed my new contract, so my husband and I took advantage of the amazing weather we had all weekend and tackled the garage. I started pulling everything out and onto the driveway. That led to at least a half-dozen people stopping to see if we were having a garage sale!
After two full days of hauling boxes, hanging art and pictures and cleaning—my muscles hurt! I know I did some serious exercise. We’ve also worked the last two mornings before I came to work. Wow—we have a lot of stuff!
The best part—our house is now feeling like a home. We haven’t really had that feeling since we moved here to Colorado two years ago.

Recipe time!

My husband came home from his most recent business trip with an amazing recipe.
Take some red grapes
Pour on a tub of vanilla yogurt
Sprinkle with nutmeg
Stir
Eat
Oh my goodness. It’s delish. Try it. I wish I had taken a picture of this for you… but
I. ATE. IT. ALL.
So here’s a file photo of grapes I found for you.

Looking back.. and looking forward

This morning my husband was going through our digital photos from the past few years. We’ve been really good about taking them, not so good about doing anything with them. To my surprise, I was really heavy right before I got this job and moved to Colorado.
I couldn’t believe it. I don’t remember it at all. I looked like an entirely different person in these pictures. Is that weird?
For the better part of two years before I moved here, I worked overnights/early mornings. I slept in shifts. A few hours in the morning after getting home from work and a few hours before going back to work. It was tough. I didn’t see my kids very much, and when I did I was not a happy-loving Mom. I was a stressed out mean Mom. Apparently I was pretty unhealthy too. I MIGHT show you one of the pictures at some point. MIGHT!
Since I moved here my weight has also been a struggle.. up and down. Too much up. I feel it in my clothes, since I don’t weigh myself that much.
This morning Haley and I danced to some 80′s music. That was fun and got our hearts pumping!

Day after slump
Posted by Stefanie Boe under Uncategorized | Tags: 100 Days of Fitness, exercise |Comments Off
The day after an election is like the day after going clubbing. Everyone seems to have a hangover—although none of us had the pleasure of drinking. We all get home so late all we can do is flop down on the bed and sleep… only to get up a few short hours later and do it all again.
I had a great time last night, I love elections. I planned for months and my planning paid off. I just wish I could spend this much time and effort on myself. Imagine how I’d look if I worked day in and day out on the plan and presentation for myself. Seems a little selfish I guess.
I’m losing track of how many days I’m in to the 100 days. It’s 14 days I think. My clothes don’t feel any looser, but I do think my outlook is better. Heck–I’m at least paying attention. Are you?

I had two

of Lisa’s cookies. Yum. I also ate Chipotle.. but not the whole thing. There just wasn’t time. However, I am pretty sure I scarfed down mass quantities of soda and candy.
But as the Executive Producer—I ran. All night long. So I am hoping it will cancel all this junk out. Tomorrow’s another day.. and we’re election-free.. for a little while anyway.

Now we’re on to Election Day

When I walked into the newsroom today I found a HUGE bag of Halloween candy—again. As if I didn’t have enough at HOME to deal with.
Around here we’re also getting ready for Election Day tomorrow. That means two things: stress and FOOD.
Lots of food, eating on the run and Lisa Lyden’s famous cookies.
These are no ordinary cookies people. These are the size of your hand. And no, you can’t pass them up. These babies are for special occasions, when we get them we savor them.
So here’s my election day strategy: I WILL hit the gym or at least hit the sidewalk tomorrow.

Again with the candy?

This is the hardest time of year to try and eat right, isn’t it? Or is this just me? Today I worked at 6 a.m. for our weekend morning show.
By 9:30 a.m. I had eaten at least one Reese’s and several Kit Kats. I’m not telling you how many Kit Kats. No. Way. They were the “fun size” kind.. but still. NOT TELLING.

The trouble with “fun size” candies? You can eat them in one or two bites. Experts say this is good because you can get satisfied with fewer calories. I say that’s bologna. Pure 100% bologna. If I had a full size Kit Kat, I would’ve been done when the package was gone. With the fun size.. I could still be eating. I. can. not. stop.
I’m not alone in this, am I?
By the way, I’m counting Trick Or Treating tonight as my exercise!

Back at it

After falling off the wagon the last few days.. I got up and out the door for Zumba this morning. Yay me.
Haley sat patiently again and made a friend while I stumbled my way through the songs. I’m getting better at the routines. Gotta keep going!
After Zumba I met up with a friend who had moved away. It was wonderful to catch up with her over breakfast. Unfortunately, I choose poorly. I had a bagel egg sandwich. Should’ve just had the egg! Darn. I am a sucker for a sun dried tomato bagel. I could have one right now. With cream cheese. Ugh. Why are the bad foods better tasting than the good ones?
