Improving…Eventually

leave a comment

Almost all of the significant rains have moved out of the area but the clouds linger and I wouldn’t be surprised by a little light drizzle or mist overnight.  Tomorrow will hopefully bring some limited sunshine late in the day, but we’ll probably call it mostly cloudy for tomorrow.  It should be brighter for the afternoon.  No word on whether Pierre C. Shadeaux will see his shadow tomorrow…stay tuned!  Fair to partly cloudy skies should move in Saturday with mostly sunny conditions anticipated for Sunday and a good part of Monday.  It will be cold at night with lows dropping into the lower 30s while daytime highs reside in the 50s with a few 60s showing up next week.  Right now it appears there shouldn’t be any measurable rainfall through Thursday so hopefully a time to dry out.  Unfortunately the sub-tropical jet stream will stay active and near enough to keep plenty of clouds in the forecast, especially for the latter part of next week.

almanac_january.jpgAs for this past January, I did some research and found that although we were wet, January 2007 was only the fifteenth wettest on record with 8.49 inches compared to a normal of 6.25 inches.  The record for January was in 1993 with a whopping 16.74 inches, and more than half of that came down on the 20 th of that month, the same day President Clinton was inaugurated (I never forget the big events…especially when I briefly floated my Honda at the intersection of Ambassador and Kaliste Saloom).  This past January we had 22 mostly cloudy to overcast days of which 18 days we had measurable precipitation.  I’ll talk more about January temperatures tomorrow.
