Sun Less than a Day Away!

leave a comment

This week should be highlighted by seasonably cool to mild temperatures, with a fair bit of sunshine. Milder conditions will return for the weekend followed by our next storm system.

The clouds should clear out of Acadiana during the early morning hours Tuesday, and they’ll return by late Thursday into Friday. Before our next storm system, expect late night/early morning fog to be an issue later this week.

The next weather system will approach by late Saturday and should exit Sunday, but timing of the system is still up in the air. Right now I’m feeling that it will be a late Saturday/Saturday night event. We’ll flesh out the timing as we go through the rest of the week.

This winter continues to be a winter without a winter; the long-range projections are calling for at or above normal temperatures through the spring into early summer, with precipitation expectations near normal through early spring, but drier than normal heading into the summer. You can check out the latest information at the Climate Prediction Center.

Clouds Hang On

leave a comment

Cloudy skies will remain through the day as the rain moves out. Tuesday should be nice and sunnny, and much of the week will be quiet. The system scheduled for later this week appears to be heading more northward. We may have to wait until the weekend for some rain.

Overnight Showers

leave a comment

Expect showers to move through overnight but should be clearing out by mid morning. After this cold front moves through, we will see much cooler temperatures for your Monday with highs in the upper 50s. High pressure and sunny skies will allow our highs to warm up quickly through the week to the upper 60s by Thursday before another front moves through late Friday into Saturday morning. Enjoy your week!

Indoor Weather

leave a comment

Get out the umbrellas and ponchos for the day tomorrow. Or you may just want to stay inside. As a frontal boundary stalls, rain will fall continuously through the day. We could see accumulations up to 3 inches before all is said and done. If you are planning to go to the 256th parade tomorrow, plan on getting wet but don’t let the rain showers stop you. By Monday afternoon cooler temperatures will settle in as rain showers move out.
The rest of the week looks pleasant with only a slight chance of showers late in the week.

Wet Weekend

leave a comment

Scattered showers will linger through Saturday as a cold front stalls over the Gulf. Temperatures will stay warm for the weekend with highs in the mid 60s. Sunday a front will bring showers and embedded thunderstorms which could continue through Monday. Tuesday we will get a peak of sunshine before another front comes on Wednesday and Thursday.

You may want to plan some indoor activites and relax on your weekend.

Gloomy Day

leave a comment

The cloud deck made today warm but gloomy. Clouds will continue to linger overhead through tomorrow as a cold front moves through. Moisture is very limited with this system and rain chances will be slight Friday evening into Saturday morning. Our best chance of storms will be late Sunday when the front that will move through on Friday stalls out over the Gulf, picks up moisture, and retrogrades back to Acadiana. Temperature will cool slightly to begin next week.

Winds Will Be Kickin'

leave a comment

Gusty south winds over 20mph will be around after sunrise today. Temps will once again get back into the 70s. Still expecting a front to go through late Friday night and then stalling over the coastal waters. Some scattered storms expected Friday night, and as the front lifts back north Sunday. Hold on to your hat today.

Stormy Forecast

leave a comment

High pressure currently is keeping our skies clear with warm temperatures. By Friday a weak cold front will bring a chance of thunderstorms late Friday afternoon. The question with this system is if there will be enough moisture to produce a significant chance of storms. By Saturday skies will clear just before another front comes on Sunday. This will produce a better chance of thunderstorms Sunday afternoon into Monday morning before the front stalls out over us through next week, keeping a chance of showers in the forecast.

Enjoy the warm temperatures and sunny skies in the near term!

Warming Up Again

leave a comment

After a very chilly start to this Wednesday, sunshine and fresh breezes from the Southwest will boost temps back into the 60s. Thursday even warmer in the 70s, and a chance for storms late Friday with highs again in the 70s. Over the weekend, cool again, but not cold. Lows will only drop into the 40s. South Louisiana has not had a hard freeze yet, temps have touched the 32 degree mark in New Iberia a couple of times, and we have gotten to 30 once here in Lafayette. Looking ahead, computer models don’t show any cold arctic blasts at least through the end of the month.

More Quick Changes

leave a comment

Our crazy weather will continue with winter-like temperatures tonight, but with a strong return flow from the southwest tomorrow, we’ll see highs reaching above normal for the afternoon. Some cloudiness with the return flow on Thursday will keep the temperatures from getting too warm, but the high should still reach into the 70s.

The weather picture looks more unsettled Friday into the weekend into at least mid-next week. Scattered showers will be possible on any of these days, but pinpointing the amounts and timing, are difficult. The next weather system Friday may miss us just to the north and east, but we’ll still call for some rain chances late Friday through Friday night. The associated frontal system will stall along the coast this weekend into early next week so a few showers stay in the mix. The strongest looking system to affect us in the next week or so should get here around Tuesday and/or Wednesday.

Above normal temperatures should persist into the 4th week of the month. Our last official freeze in Lafayette was on December 23rd. Other than a below normal first three weeks of December (-2.1 deg Dec.) we have seen well above normal temperatures (+5.9 deg Jan.). If we don’t see a hard freeze in the last week of January we’ll have roughly three more weeks of our “climatological” winter left, which gives the mosquitoes a much better chance this spring and summer.

Check out the NWS Climate Page for the latest.

More on the mild winter, and the outlook over the next two weeks, tonight at 10pm.
