So long Truck 6, we had some good times. I am getting a 09 Escape, and leaving the 99 Pathfinder. She is a good truck.
This was part of a previous post but since November I have driven 10,241 miles. I wish I would have kept track since I started driving it in 2006.
Story Count

Every day I come to work and I am assigned different stories. Day in and day out. Some are fun, some are must covers.
I saw about a year ago a guy who blogged and he kept a count of all them he has done thought the year.
I have decided to do the same. I am sharing today my story count for the first 6 month of 2010.
Certain things effect the count, vacations, holidays, sweeps amongst other things.
The total for the first 6 months is 263 stories.

FIRE

There was a big fire near the Royal Gorge, next to Canon City. It happened around 1pm and I was sent as the extra person for help around 2:20pm. When I got there, there was smoke everywhere. Driving around the corner on the way to Parkdale, on the hill were these flames. Unreal, the road was still open. Pull over and get some great shots. The problem with pics from where I was from is that this camera does not do it justice. The flames were huge. I spent 3 days covering this fire. Here are some of the pics from Monday.

I have been unable to blog for a while, I have had some password problems, but all seems to be better now.

Pike HotShots

There are days when you get a cool story, and this was one of them. I went with Bill Folsom up to Monument, to the U.S. Forrest Service, Pike Hotshots area. They were doing a media day and training. From the time they get the call until they have to leave is under 2 hours to deploy to a fire. The Hotshots will go into the fire and create a fire line to hold the fire from moving. There are now about 10 HotShot crews around the nation. These are the elite wildland fire fighters.

BBQ… Smoker

I have Entered into the world of BBQ Smoking!
Which is so much Fun. I have a unique smoker, it is cold “Old Smokey” 
It is a electric smoker. The reason I went with the electric is where I live, where you can not have fire, and I did not want to go to the gas route. I have done some really great food in it. The best thing is that this unit has no holes, so no water pan is needed. The tight fight keeps the moisture in and the meat tastes so good!
I can not find much information on this somker online, but it is so easy to use. Very little chips are used, due to the tight seal.
For dinner today, we smoked a Corn Beef, which was to DIE FOR!
Each bite you took you could taste the juice from the meat and the smoke flavor.
One thing they tell you not to do is to soak the chips, but today we did, and it was really, really good.
We also did chicken wings. the one negitive side of the smoker is that it will not make the meat crispy, which for some they really like.
Either way, you will not be disappointed with this smoker.

Curling

Growing up in Detroit, I used to watch Curling on CBC. I enjoy watching it, and found out the Broadmoor has a Curling Club, and with the Olympics on, what a time to do a great story.
