Field of Dreams

15350443-15350446-largeI love the movie, Field of Dreams. I used to LOVE to watch it when I was a kid. I think it would be so cool, if this could happen, to the greats play the game. I would have loved to see Ty Cobb play. ty cobb

The other day Field of Dreams was on, and I loved watching it!

Ice Training

Every year we seem to do the same story, as a reminder to the community to not play in Ditches, stay away from bears, and the Fire Department Ice Training. Some of these are run of the mill, and this one is, but it is fun. These guys are having fun now, playing in the icy water, with no panic of a mother screaming for her baby.  The last time this season, that the FD had to do a ice rescue was for a deer about 3 months ago. They downed their suites and jumped right in the water.

I remember when I was a kid growing up in Detroit, we would go to my uncle’s who lives on a lake, and by Thanksgiving we had enough ice go play hockey on, and just skate around. My brothers and I were playing on the ice, in the shallow end. My younger brother was jumping on the thin ice, as we were trying to break it open, and as he jumped, it he went. Mind you the depth of the water where we were was only 2 feet deep, but MAN WAS IT COLD! I remember him running SO FAST out of the water back to the house to get dry. IT WAS COLD.

The Big difference about a Michigan winter and a Colorado winter, is that in Michigan it gets cold and stays cold. Here in Colorado, we will have a few really cold days, and then it will warm up into the 50″s for a few days and then get cold again. With the warming, the ice melts and is unstable.

So the moral of the story, Don’t play on the ice.

Here is the story that we did.

Do you like your job?

I LOVE MY JOB.

I am sitting here on a Friday night, flipping the channels and I come across a crawl on the screen, that there is a fire with evacuations involved. I run outside and look to the west, hoping to, or not to, see a orange glow.  I see flashing lights, and start to think how big is it?  Do they need help at work?  My wife took our son to the store to get out of the house, I just put her down for bed, and I am thinking, I can call my wife and her come home, or I can, take her to where my wife is, or heck, she can come with me.  Then I think, ALWAYS on my day off.  It is the trill of Breaking News, the Adrenaline, I wanted to go, to get the best shots, talk to people effected.

There are people who get home on Friday and wish Monday would never come, so they would not have to go back to work, where I get off work on my Friday, and I look forward to getting back to work.

Ironman for IronPuppy

A local man’s finish at Ironman Kona will also benefit many people who need some extra help to simply complete everyday tasks. This triathletes efforts benefit a cause he calls IronPuppy. Joe Turcotte, a Colorado Springs corporate still photographer, just completed the pinnacle of Ironman events on Hawaii’s big island.  Preparing takes so much time, he says “some people consider it a selfish sport”. Not for Joe, his athletic goals include helping others.

This most recent event adds more than $10,000 dollars to fundraising efforts he started several years back when he had five endurance events scheduled in one year. Back then he started the IronPuppy project to raise money for Canine Companions for Independence. The first year, support for the fund-raising effort grew far beyond expectations. “I began with about 75 people on my e-mail list and by the end of 2006 the iron puppy update had grown to over 300 people. Entrance fees alone for a single event can be more than $500. Showing a row of dozens of finisher medals Joe says, “This is the end result”.

Now because of IronPuppy each medal he has not only symbolizes a finish, it also represents money donated to raise puppies into companion dogs. In three years over $46,000 dollars all going to train dogs that help people with disabilities live more independent lives.

The IronPuppy effort is part of Joe’s Website, www.joeturcotte.com

Skunk Update!

So my skunk video has aired on the “Today Show”, “Countdown with Keith Olberman”  Kinda cool…

Summer is over

With Labor Day come and gone, the Balloon Classic was a hoot. Ben Loved it, I took him on Monday, the last day, just him and I. We had a great time. I came home and then took both kids by myself to the Zoo. It was a good time, and it was PACKED!!  Ben pushed Bridget the entire time, and he is getting better, He still does not know the difference between left and right, but then again, he is 2.

I am working on uploading pic from my phone, One thing I do NOT like about word press, it only takes a max of 2 megapixal pics, so I would have to resize them all in photoshop…… not cool.

Back to work today.  Feeling good.
